SIGN REGULATIONS

CHAPTER 17

 

 

Political Campaign Signs

 

 

            Signs announcing candidates seeking public office and other data pertinent thereto shall be permitted subject to the following regulations:

 

            1)         The maximum size shall be a total of nine (9) square feet in all residential zones and thirty-two (32) square feet in all other zones.

 

            2)         No sign shall be located within or over the public right-of-way or located on utility poles.

 

3)                   No sign shall be placed on a property until written permission from the owner of the property is provided to the Town.

 

4)                   No sign shall be erected prior to thirty (30) days before the first primary.

 

5)                   Candidates eliminated during any election, except the general election, shall remove signs within five (5) days following said election. After the general elections, all candidates shall remove signs within five (5) days.

 

            6)         A one hundred dollar ($100.00) cash bond or campaign check shall be posted with the Town prior to erecting any sign to ensure placement of signs in acceptable locations and removal of all signs within five (5) days following the election as provided above. 

 

            7)         The Town may remove and destroy any sign erected for which a bond or campaign check has not been posted, or any sign that is remaining five (5) days following an election in violation of subsection 5) above.  If all of the signs are removed, the deposit will be refunded.  The cash bond or campaign check will be forfeited if any signs remain more than five (5) days after the election, or if any sign is placed without an owner's consent or as otherwise not allowed per this Code.
