Approval of Metric Engineering proposal to design fiber optic infrastructure to be installed concurrent with the upcoming US 27/441 road widening project.
Summary
Staff recently met with Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) representatives regarding our interest in installing fiber optic conduit concurrent with the utility relocation effort for the upcoming US 27/441 road widening project. As a part of the construction process, underground utilities will need to be relocated to accommodate the new widened roadway. This is also an ideal time to install fiber conduit for a future municipal wide area network.
Metric Engineering is the FDOT design firm for the utility relocation effort. Staff recommends approval of Metric Engineering’s proposal to design the fiber optic infrastructure concurrent with the road widening project.
The design will adhere to FDOT design standards and follow the FDOT signal interconnect conduit path the length of the project. Any savings resulting from the colocation within the FDOT provided trench will be applied to connecting waste water lift stations that exist near to the road widening project.
The design will be constrained by a not-to-exceed construction cost of $500,000. The estimated costs include a minimum of 26,700 feet of buried fiber optic conduit, and 37 concrete pull and splice boxes.
The 90% (Draft) and Final plans will be submitted to the Town for review and approval.
An amended utility relocation agreement, including the anticipated fiber optic construction cost, will be presented to the Town Commission at a later date along with any other related contractual documents.
A construction invoice schedule will be provided following FDOT contract award.
The completion of this project is anticipated to occur after substantial completion of the road widening project.
