Consideration of Approval to Create a Part-time System Administrator Position in the Information Technology Department
Department
Information Technology
Staff Recommended Motion
Staff recommends approval of request to create a part-time System Administrator position in the Information Technology department.
Summary
The proposed part-time System Administrator position will perform administrative and technical work ensuring the efficient operation of the Town’s computers, client software and telephones. The position would be responsible to provide help desk support to local and remote Town employees.
The current staffing level of the IT Department is three full time employees. This includes the IT Director position, the System Analyst position, and the GIS Technician position. For the past 10 years, another employee in a different department has worked with the IT Department to provide IT support services for staff on a part-time basis.
The creation of a part-time System Administrator position will prevent the full burden of computer system administration and help desk responsibilities from falling to the IT Director. Providing a dedicated support resource within the IT Department will provide a more efficient organization of resources and ensure the best outcome for our staff, especially the Police department.
This position will be posted internally for 5 days.
The funding for this position was included in the FY2020/21 adopted budget.
