Consideration of Offer of Employment to William Lawrence for the Position of Town Manager
Staff Recommended Motion
Staff recommends approval of the offer of employment to William Lawrence for the position of Town Manager.
On Friday, February 19, 2021, Town Attorney Derek Schroth contacted Mr. William Lawrence with an offer of employment for the position of Town Manager at the request of the Commission after their meeting on February 18, 2021.
Over the course of several conversations and/or emails, Mr. Lawrence has agreed to the following terms:
- salary offer of $120,000;
- receiving the same vacation and sick time, health insurance, deferred compensation and other benefits as Town employees receive per personnel policies; and
- severance pay equivalent to two week’s pay if terminated without cause during the first year (thereafter severance would accrue annually upon contract renewal at the rate of two weeks per year up to 20 weeks).
Additionally, Mr. Lawrence is requesting a $500 per month vehicle allowance, one week of vacation time to start as he has a summer vacation already scheduled, and he would prefer a three-year contract, but is agreeable to a two-year contract as per previous Town Manager contracts.
Mr. Lawrence has stated he can be moved within a 30 mile radius of Lady Lake within four weeks of signing an employment contract.
A draft agreement is included in the packet for the Commission’s review. Mr. Lawrence plans to attend the meeting on March 1, 2021 to answer any questions or further the discussion.
