Commission Meeting Agenda Item
Resolution 2021-102 (First and Final Reading) — A Resolution of the Town Commission of the Town of Lady Lake, Florida, Adopting the Lake County Multijurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan
Staff Recommended Motion
Staff recommends approval of the first and final reading of Resolution 2021-102.
The Lake County Board of County Commissioners is required to update the County’s Local Mitigation Strategy (LMS) plan every five years. On February 9, 2021, the Board of County Commissioners approved the resolution to approve the 2020 update to the LMS; see attached Resolution 2021-19.
Each municipality in Lake County should adopt the County’s LMS to be eligible for future Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) funding. HMGP funding typically becomes available after disasters such as a hurricane. Lake County has received HMGP funding after Hurricane Matthew in 2016, Hurricane Irma in 2017, Hurricane Matthew in 2018 (did not have direct impact on Lake, however unspent funds were eligible to Lake), and Hurricane Dorian in 2019 (did not have direct impact on Lake, however unspent funds were eligible to Lake).
Once the Town Commission adopts by resolution the County’s LMS plan, Resolution 2021-102 will be sent to Lake County and subsequently forwarded to the Florida Division of Emergency for their records.
