Staff recommends approval of the acknowledgement of the waiver request for Casa Montessori to display a banner beyond the 60-day limitation per calendar year.
Summary
On Monday, August 2, 2021, Lauren Newman of Casa Montessori came before the Town Commission stating that the widening project to Highway 27/441 has affected enrollment for the school. On July 20, 2021, Ms. Newman was informed that she could not obtain a permit to display a banner because she had exceeded the number of days that she could obtain a permit in a calendar year. Under Chapter 17, Section 5, d), 1), C), no promotional signs may be displayed for a maximum of 15 consecutive days and for a total of 60 per calendar year.
After hearing the testimony of her hardship, the Town Commission agreed that Ms. Newman could again display the banner on the property until August 23, 2021, to help advertise enrollment for the school. Because this item was not on the agenda at the August 2, 2021, meeting, Attorney Derek Schroth recommended that we memorialize the action at the August 16, 2021, meeting.
