Job Description

Performs semi-skilled work in the performance of laboring tasks in the maintenance of the recreational fields and operates a variety of equipment. Supports and assists Lead Operator.


This position pays a salary of $25,292.80 annually. It is a non-exempt position.


The Town provides 100% paid employee health insurance, dental insurance, long-term disability, life and accidental death insurance. The Town also provides 50% paid dependent health insurance, a 401a retirement plan that is fully vested after three years, paid time off, and paid holidays. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Assists the Parks Lead Operator in maintaining grounds, fields, and parks performing mowing, dragging, weeding, tilling, raking, digging, and other manual labor tasks of recreational fields and park areas.
  2. Prepares fields for athletic activities such as lining, dragging and raking.
  3. Prepares and implements a thorough fertilizer and pesticide program for recreational fields and park areas.
  4. Applies required chemicals, installs, turf and seeds on fields, parks and other grounds.
  5. Maintains equipment and facilities by performing manual labor and semi-skilled work.
  6. Installs plant materials and applies required chemicals.
  7. Performs general maintenance on buildings such as painting, minor carpentry and plumbing.
  8. Performs litter control functions; cleans restrooms; clean and provide maintenance to outdoor park properties.
  9. Makes daily written and oral reports to Parks Lead Operator and/or Director.
  10. Performs on-call duties when needed including special events.
  11. Provide facility support for leisure services and programs.
  12. Maintain licenses as required.
  13. Closing of facilities at end of each day.
  14. Attend training and seminars.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Knowledge of turf and horticultural maintenance.
  2. Knowledge, skill and ability to operate tools and machinery used in parks maintenance and construction.
  3. Knwoledge of occupational hazards connected with laboring work.
  4. Ability to learn new trends in methods of operating and maintaining equipment and tools.
  5. Ability to read small print and accurately complete reports.
  6. Ability to acquire other licenses as needed.
  7. Ability to effectively communicate with public and maintain positive image for Town.
  8. Ability to communicate with individuals in person and on the telephone.
  9. Ability to operate a motor vehicle.
  10. Ability to lift and carry over 45 pounds.
  11. Ability to climb stepladder.
  12. Ability to pull, push, walk, stand, kneel, bend, balance, drive, and stoop.
  13. Ability to effectively, safely, and efficiently operate equipment as needed.

Education and Experience

  1. High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) equivalency.
  2. Pesticide and Insecticide Certification.
  3. At least two years in maintenance experience involving horticulture or athletic maintenance.


  1. Possession of a valid Florida Driver License.
  2. Class “B” Florida CDL optional.

Essential Physical Skills

  1. Ability to lift and carry over 45 pounds.
  2. Ability to pull, push, walk, stand, kneel, bend, balance, and stoop.
  3. Ability to climb ladder.
  4. Ability to effectively, safely and efficiently operate equipment as needed.
