2. Consideration to Send a Recommendation to the Commission to Invest $114,873.50 for a Play Structure Design for Pyramid Park (Mike Burske)
Parks and Recreation Director Mike Burske presented the background summary for this agenda item (on file in the Clerk’s Office).
Member Turlo asked if a water playground could be included.
Mr. Burske stated a water playground would cost approximately $500K.
Member Lowery asked if the wood chips need to be replaced annually. She stated that the poured rubber would not need annual maintenance.
Mr. Burske stated the Commission voted to purchase wood chips rather than a poured rubber surface for the playground. He stated the cost of the poured rubber is too expensive to maintain. Wood chips are an economical option and this play structure can be purchased utilizing the remaining funds.
Member Turlo asked if the structure is metal or plastic.
Mr. Burske stated the structure is a combination of plastic and metal. The manufacturer has a lifetime guarantee on their play structures.
Acting Chairperson/Member Jones asked if there were any further questions or comments. Hearing none, he asked for a motion.
Member Turlo made a motion to send a recommendation of approval to the Commission regarding investing $114,873.50 for a play structure for Pyramid Park. Member Lowery seconded the motion. The motion passed by an all in favor vote of 3 to 0.
D. Chairperson and Members' Report
Mr. Burske stated he will present his upcoming events calendar to the Commission. He stated that in previous years, an outside company was contracted to do the luminaries at Log Cabin Park in December. He advised that this year the Parks and Recreation Department has partnered with the Lady Lake Chamber of Commerce to do the luminaries, as well as Art in the Park. Mr. Burske will email the events calendar to the board members.
Member Turlo asked how the annual Halloween event will be conducted due to the COVID-19 social distancing requirements.
Member Lowery suggested a drive through Trick or Trunk event where families will be able to stay in their vehicles and participants will hand treats through the vehicle window.
Member Turlo stated a similar event has been done in prior years where the car trunks have the candy and the children come to the car. The kids will be continually moving; however, no games will be provided.
Mr. Burske stated this is a terrific idea.
Member Lowery stated as a safety issue, the children should not be outside of their vehicle.
Member Turlo clarified with Mr. Burske that the candy must be bagged.
Member Jones asked Mr. Burske to bring this to a future meeting.
E. Adjourn
With no further business to discuss, the meeting adjourned at 5:49 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
