Parks, Recreation, and Trees Advisory Committee Meeting

The Parks, Recreation and Tree Board Advisory Committee meeting was held in the Town Hall Commission Chambers at 409 Fennell Blvd., Lady Lake, Florida. The meeting convened at 5:30 p.m.

A. Roll Call

Richard Jones, Member; Doris Turlo, Member; and Betty Cantelmo, Chairperson/Member

ABSENT: Chyrle Lowery, Member

Staff Present

Mike Burske, Parks and Recreation Director; and Carol Osborne, Staff Assistant to the Town Clerk

B. Public Comment

Chairperson/Member Cantelmo asked if there was any public comment.

Parks and Recreation Director Mike Burske stated that Item 2 on the agenda was approved at a previous meeting and will not be presented tonight.

C. New Business

1. Approval of Minutes

Member Jones made a motion to approve the minutes of the July 8, 2020 Parks, Recreation and Tree Advisory Committee meeting. Member Turlo seconded the motion. The motion passed by an all in favor vote of 3 to 0.

2. Consideration to Send a Recommendation to the Commission to Invest up to $2,500.00 in Sod and Some Plant Material for the Butterfly Garden at Heritage Park (Mike Burske)

3. Consideration to Send a Recommendation to the Commission to give Approval for the Lady Lake dog Park to Install a Concrete Sidewalk at the Park Utilizing Donated Funds for the Project (Mike Burske)

Parks and Recreation Director Mike Burske presented the background summary for this agenda item (on file in the Clerk’s Office).

Member Jones made a motion to forward to the Commission the recommendation of approval to utilize donated funds to install a concrete sidewalk at the Lady Lake Dog Park. Member Cantelmo seconded. The motion passed by an all-in favor vote of 3 to 0.

4. Review and Discussion of a Proposed Walking Trail and Amenities on the Town-Owned Ten Acre Parcel at the Corner of Old Dixie Highway and East Lady Lake Blvd. (Mike Burske)

Parks and Recreation Director Mike Burske presented the background summary for this agenda item (on file in the Clerk’s Office).

Mr. Burske stated that this is the very beginning of Phase 1 of construction of the new park facility. He noted this area is the wooded area near Log Cabin Park. He stated this recommendation came from one of the Town’s Commissioners. He advised that he is currently soliciting proposals for design. He asked the board for their input as well.

Member Turlo suggested adding exercise stations along the walking path. She stated that area is currently used as a parking area and asked if there will be ample parking once this project is complete.

Mr. Burske advised that the parking area will remain; the walking trails and equipment will be in the woods. He stated that fencing around the perimeter is included with the project.

D. Chairperson and Members' Report

Member Jones reported that the County’s Library Board has been communicating via email.

E. Adjourn

With no further business to discuss, the meeting adjourned at 5:48 p.m.
